Marker
A collapse in the international economic system left one in four Americans out of work. Millions more scrambled for food. New York Governor Franklin Roosevelt ran on a promise of a "New Deal for the American People." He won the 1932 presidential election in a landslide. Roosevelt projected confidence and committed the federal government to economic and social policies to fight the Great Depression.
