"He was born in Montejo de la Sierra (Madrid) in 1902 and studied at the Higher Royal Conservatory in Madrid. He obtained a diploma in composition in 1931 and between 1935 and 1943 he assisted Bartolomé Pérez Casas with his Professorship in Harmony. He received a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts to continue his studies in Gregorian chant in Montserrat and carry on research into the musical archives of the Palace Library. In 1975 he received a grant from the Juan March Foundation to compose his magnum opus, the Symphonic Variations on an Original Theme. At the same time he worked as a music critic for a number of music publications.

Many of his works have received their first performance by major Spanish and foreign music groups. Until his retirement he gave music classes at the Colegio del Pilar school in Madrid. He died in Madrid in September 2001."
