Inscription.
According to law then in place for the education of children of color, it was not until 1880 that Weston had a sufficient number of African-American children to support the requisite segregated classrooms. The third such building constructed in West Virginia, this brick one-room school served that purpose until desegregation in 1954. Originally a plain, box like structure, the Spanish facade was added in the 1920's. It was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1993.
