Regarding Donehoo-Brannen-NeSmith Mansion. Excerpt from the National Register nomination:
The Donehoo-Brannen House is significant in architecture because it is an excellent example of the Neoclassical Revival style whose popularity began just before the turn of the 19th-20th century, having been inspired by the Columbian Exposition of 1893. … The house is also significant in commerce because the original owner, Dr. James E. Donehoo (1867-1949), was a locally-prominent physician and businessman. He owned a major local trading company and was involved in the Bulloch Oil Mill (as president), the Savannah, Augusta and Northern Railroad (as a charter member), and a grocery store. He had a direct interest in several of Statesboro's major commercial enterprises. The house is significant in government because in 1940 it was adapted as a training school for women enrolled in the New Deal's National Youth Administration which gave practical training in agriculture and home economics, the socalled "duties of life". The house was sold in 1942 to Irvin A. Brannen (1882-1957), a prominent farmer, businessman and former legislator from nearby Candler County who had worked for that county's creation in 1905.

2. If walls could talk. Because the Donehoo-Brannen-NeSmith mansion is a private home, most people have only glimpsed its stone steps, wide porch and fluted columns while traveling Savannah Avenue. But a 2015 estate sale lifted the neo-classical house's air of mystery.
