Excerpt (in translation): "Lope de Vega had felt the pain of death very close, he had held his inert son in his arms, he felt the coldness of his beloved. And in the face of those disasters he turned his life and his verses into transcendence. His passionate personality made him want to be a priest, and he was, although he never abandoned the man of genius, of boisterousness, and even the good lover. The son that he watched die in the spring of 1613 was Carlos Félix and, in August, without recovering from the pain, Juana de Guardo, his wife, died after giving birth to his daughter Feliciana.... Félix Lope de Vega y Carpio was ordained a priest in 1614. The church was dedicated by order of Felipe III to San Hermenegildo and in it he sang his first mass...."(Submitted on May 16, 2022.)
