Justicia in Madrid, Spain — Southwestern Europe (Iberian Peninsula)
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya
Arquitectos • Manuel Galíndez • Fernando Arzadún
1930 - 1934
This building was built by the Banco de Vizcaya on the site of the old Apolo Theater and responds to a clear attempt to combine the language of modern architecture with the representational needs of a bank building in an area that stands out as the financial and commercial center of the city in the first third of the 20th century. It consists of nine floors aligned along the central axis of the portal and vestibule, with a large operations area, very elongated, acting as a patio on the upper floors. The facade, made of polished granite, is dominated by a large order of pilasters up to the fourth floor.
Erected by Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid.
