1. Lyons hopes to make history.
(from Finger Lakes Times Dec 26, 2017) This Erie Canal community got an early Christmas present, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that a large portion of its downtown, park square and adjacent neighborhoods are being recommended by the state Board for Historic Preservation for placement on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The Lyons Downtown Historic District, containing 256 properties, is one of 23 designated for 2017, said Cuomo. The district includes not just a number of canal-era buildings, but a variety of homes that include the big Victorian residences.
