Satchel Paige was known for his outstanding control as a pitcher and his love for the game of baseball which made him one of the most famous and successful players from the Negro Leagues. He was a five time Negro League All-Star and a two time Major League All-Star. He won the Negro League Championship in 1942 as a member of the Kansas City Monarchs and the World Series Championship as a member of the Cleveland Indians in 1948. His last Major League appearance was in 1965 with the Kansas City Athletics.

He was the first Negro League Player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
