Inscription.
Vincent J. Dooley. The University of Georgia Head Football Coach. During his 25 years as head coach, Vince Dooley brought the Georgia Bulldogs to the forefront of the college football national stage. A national championship in 1980, six Southeastern Conference titles, 201 victories, and invitations to 20 bowl games highlighted his brilliant career. Dooley's achievements in, and contributions to, the coaching profession are defined by his election in 1994 to the College Football Hall of Fame. He is credited with introducing Georgia's famous "Power G logo, bringing back the "silver britches," starting the tradition of fans wearing the color red, and increasing the number of home games played in Sanford Stadium. He also instilled a focus on academics as 13 of his players earned prestigious post-graduate scholarships, 11 earned Academic All-America honors, and 78 were named Academic All-SEC. With all the achievements, his greatest pride was still a supportive family: wife Barbara and children Deanna, Daniel, Denise, and Derek.
