Inscription.
This sculpture of President Gerald R. Ford, as a 14-year old Eagle Scout, was created by artist Charles C. Parks and proudly presented to the Gerald R. Ford family and this museum by the Scouts, leaders and friends of the Gerald R. Ford Council, Boy Scouts of America on October 28, 2008.

"At our darkest hour, what Americans needed most was a leader of unquestionable integrity—what Americans needed most was an Eagle Scout!"

"My early years as a Boy Scout were invaluable in helping to shape the course of my later life. Throughout my public service and extensive travels around our country, I have seen firsthand evidence of the immeasurable worth of the basic values taught by Scouting programs.

The Scout Oath to help other people, to keep physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight and to do one's duty to God and to our country provides a solid base on which to build both individual and national strength.

The three great principles which Scouting encourages — self-discipline, teamwork and moral and patriotic values — are the building blocks of character. By working for these principles, those who belong

"Not all Boy Scouts grow up to be President but some do ..."

In 1927, at the age of 14, a member of Troop 15 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, who had earned 26 merit badges, became an Eagle Scout. In 1970, he was recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. And in 1974, he became President of the United States of America.

This sculpture of Gerald R. Ford as an Eagle Scout was created by artist Charles C. Parks and was made possible through the generosity of the Jay & Betty Van Andel Foundation. The following friends of Gerald R. Ford also participated in the underwriting process:
