Fort Armstrong
On April 22, 1848, the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta was founded in an upper room of the two-story frame student residence that stood on the S.W. corner of E. College and Greenside. Rooming and boarding establishments were called "forts" in the jargon of the Jefferson College students. The founders were known as the "Immortal Six." Fort Armstrong was torn down in 1916.
