1. Lake County Marker
Inscription. Lake County, in the state’s most northwest corner is named for Reelfoot Lake. The lake was created by a series of earthquakes in 1811-1812 that changed the flow of the Mississippi River here along the active New Madrid Fault Zone. The lake harbors an abundance of wildlife year round and it is a favorite wintering ground of American bald eagles. Rockabilly pioneer “Mr. Blue Suede Shoes,” Carl Perkins was born in Ridgely.
