1. Gibson County Marker
Inscription. Agriculturally diverse and level, Gibson County was named for Colonel John Gibson who fought in the Creek Wars under Andrew Jackson. Especially strong crops have included cotton, soybeans, and strawberries. Gibson County was the last home in Tennessee of David Crockett and of Margaret Daveiss Hess, the first woman to argue a case before a Tennessee court. Peter Taylor, “one of the most accomplished short story writers of the 20th century,” was born in Trenton.
