1. Henderson County Marker
Inscription. Named for Colonel James Henderson, commander of Tennessee troops in the War of 1812. The greater part of the 48,000 acres of Natchez Trace State Park and Forest lie in the county’s north-eastern section. In the mid-1930s heavily eroded wastelands created by 100 years of land abuse, were restored through a nationally recognized conservation program. Beginning in the 1960s, the Beech River Watershed was developed to create West Tennessee’s largest series of man-made lakes.
