Inscription. McNairy recalls Judge John McNairy, who was first appointed to the bench by President George Washington, and was finally Judge of the District Court of the United States for Tennessee for more than three decades. This rural area, especially the world famous Coon Creek site, has superb fossil remains of dinosaur-age Mesozoic fauna, including mollusks and mosasaurs. Mosasaurs that measured more than twenty five feet long, were marine lizards with long snake-like bodies, lizard heads, and paddle-shaped limbs.
