Hillsdale in Hillsdale County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Liberty Tree Descendent
This Tulip Poplar is a direct bud-grafted descendent of the 600 year-old historic Liberty Tree under which the Sons of Liberty of Maryland read the Declaration of Independence in 1776. When the magnificent historic tree fell in 1999 in Hurricane Floyd, it was the last living Liberty Tree. This new Liberty Tree is gratefully presented as a gift from The Providence Forum to Hillsdale College to celebrate and to honor the College's extraordinary commitment to American liberty. May we ever remain "one nation under God", remembering that we are "endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights."
