Inscription.
A print or job shop with hand-fed presses capable of printing up to 1,000 copies an hour was the place to go if you needed business cards, announcements, or handbills. While rural Troy Corners wasn't known to have a job shop, many communities relied on these printers to conduct business. Everything, from your library card to posters for the local church social, would have come hot off the press.
