Inscription. Duncan Stewart was “an energetic and prosperous farmer” here. The Wells Creek structure formed millions of years ago probably by meteorite impact, is one of the state’s five mystery craters. Before the Civil War, Stewart County was a flourishing iron production center in Middle Tennessee for over fifty years. After Forts Henry and Donelson fell to Grant, Dover was burned, deeply shaking Confederate confidence. TVA’s Land of the Lakes is a unique recreational area featuring a 19th century homestead.
