1. Maury County Marker
Inscription. Early settlers purchased land here for $3.00 per acre. Agricultural wealth built antebellum plantations such as Clifton Place, its ornate neighbor Rattle and Snap, and Hamilton Place. Columbia, home of President James K. Polk, has drawn more than 10,000 to its Mule Day celebration held each April. In the 1980s, General Motors Saturn manufacturing plant changed the quaintness of Spring Hill. The county is named for Williamson County surveyor and politician Abram Maury.
