1. Davidson County Marker
Inscription. The North Carolina legislature created Davidson County, named for Valley Forge veteran Brigadier General William Lee Davidson was a small fraction of its original size, the county first embraced most of Middle Tennessee. Cumberland River curves grace the capital city that has grown from a fur trading post in the 1700s to a thriving metropolis of music, publishing, education, and industry with a combined city and county metropolitan government. Superior transportation systems continue a legacy begun with the Natchez Trace and the river.
