The Patio
Andres Pico Adobe
In researching old Adobes, Mark Harrington found that they had a patio area. He restored the patio area to what you see. The patio is actually the back of the residence. The front of the residence is on the other side.
Harrington also found many adobes had a fountain. So, he constructed the fountain you see now. Fiestas (parties) and barbeques were held here. The Harrington's loved to entertain.
Today the patio is used for educational purposes. School children on field trips are shown demonstrations of how to make adobe bricks, how ladies washed their clothes, how to churn butter, how to sew quilts and how to spin yarn.
There are native plants in the patio area. Look for Sage Brush, Jade Plants, Sand Lot Manzanita, Laurel Sumac, Chapparal Yucca, Mexican Lavender, African Iris, Trailing Lantana, Carrot Wood, Garden Petunia, Fox Tail Agave, Pencil Cactus, Oregon Box Leaf Laurustinus, Evergreen Huckleberry, Chandler Plant, Wild Iris, Crimson Bottlebrush, Common Myrtle, Ash Juniper, Showy Stone Crop, Orpine, Candelabra Aloe, Ghost Plant, Burro Tail, Golden Dew Drop, Regal Pelargonium, Bloody Crane's-Bill, Blood Flower, Rosemary and Aeonium.
