1. Joe Henry Engle Marker

Inscription. Joe Engle grew up loving airplanes and dreaming of flying. With a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Kansas, he joined the U.S. Air Force and became a test pilot, flying more than 155 types of aircraft. Engle has earned numerous honors. He flight-tested the NASA USAF X-15 research rocket plane in 1963, the Space Shuttle Enterprise I 1977 and the Space Shuttle Columbia in November, 1981. Engle led the Space Shuttle Discovery mission in August, 1985.
