Inscription.

Hon. Ulysses Mercur was the 8th Judge of Bradford County and 12th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He was regarded as the most scholarly man in the county and a faithful member of his church. His widow, Sarah, presented a large stained glass window in the Towanda Christ Episcopal Church known as the "Mercur Window" in his memory. He was born in Towanda Aug. 12, 1818, died June 6, 1887 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. His home is a later example of Greek Revival. Built in 1851, this mansion-type dwelling has two-story pilastered corners with embellished doric capitals. An impressive frieze and dentiled cornice with iron window grilles define the roofline. Ionic fluted columns
carry the full-width porch.
