1. Moore County Marker
Inscription. Jasper “Jack” Newton Daniel started in the whiskey business here at age twelve, and came to own his namesake distillery, the oldest national registered distillery, shortly after the Civil War. By the 1880s Moore County had fifteen registered distilleries. They depended upon the iron-free limestone cave spring water that flows at 58.6 degrees year-round, an essential ingredient in Jack Daniel's celebrated spirits. The county honors Major General William Moore, a War of 1812 veteran and state representative
