Inscription. Part of the Scenic Pa-Way System-reaches through this county’s picturesque Sequatchie Valley Sequatchie, also the name of the prominent river here reportedly honors the Cherokee chief who travelled to Charleston South Carolina to negotiate a theaty with the Colonial government in the early 1800s. The Native American word “sequa” is also linguistically linked to “opossum.” Limestone, coal, iron ore, timber, fertile farmlands, and fine livestock grazing pastures complete this utopian mosaic framed by the Cumberland Plateau escarpment.
