1. Fentress County Marker
Inscription. Rugged, stately, isolated beauty characterizes Fentress, seated mostly in the Cumberland Plateau. It shares Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area with neighboring Scott County. Mark Twain was conceived in Jamestown where his father practiced law. Jamestown is the former Cherokee camp, Sand Springs. The most famous native is Alvin C. York, farmer and World War I hero, who single handedly killed 25 and captured 132 Germans, for which he was awarded the Congreasional Medal of Honor.
