1. Bledsoe County Marker
Inscription. Anthony Bledsoe was a Colonial Army captain, RevolutionarybWar Major, and Tennessee Militia colonel. Pikeville is named for Zebulon Montgomery Pike, soldier, explorer, and discoverer of Pikes Peak. The dominant natural feature is the Sequatchie Valley formed by the Sequatchie River that bursts out in a clear cold fountain just north of Bledsoe after journeying under a Cumberland mountain. The Valley, long retaining the simpler pioneer life, is “one of the loveliest in all of Tennessee.”
