1. Campbell County Marker
Inscription. “Land of mountains, valleys, streams, and lakes,” Campbell is drained by the aclonch, Powell, and New rivers and tributaries of the Cumberland. It was derived from Anderson and Claiborne Counties. Virginia Militia Revolutionary War Colonel Arthur Campbell, the county namesake, was also commissioner for negotiation of Indian Treaties in 1781. The county is noted for its recreational areas. Cove Lake State Park, Norris Lake State Park, and Indian Mountain State Park developed in reclaimed strip mine land, are peaceful, prominent features.
