1. Bradley County Marker
Inscription. Drained by the Hiwassee River at the northern boundary, Bradley recognizes Edward Bradley, colonel in the Fifteenth Tennessee Volunteer Regiment during the War of 1812. The topography runs in a southwesterly parallel ridges. Attempting to keep their native land, at Ted Clay up to 5,000 Cherokee met in democratic council under Chief John Ross’ leadership. Here “the Trail of Tears really began, for here the Cherokee learned that they had lost their mountains, streams, and valleys forever.”
