1. Hamblen County Marker
Inscription. Hamblen was formed from Grainger, Jefferson, and Hawkins counties, and named for Hawkins resident, Hezekiah Hamblen. Morristown was named after the Morris family, Watauga Association pioneers who settled on the Nolichucky River. Morristown’s elevated second-floor sidewalks in the downtown area are unique to urban renewal efforts. John and Rebecca Crockett, parents of David, operated a tavern east of the county seat. Cherokee Lake forms the western boundary of the county that is single seated between Bays and Clinch mountains.
