1. Greene County Marker
Inscription. Nathaniel Greene, a Major General in the Revolutionary Army, helped to end the war as commander of the Army of the South. Tobacco farming is still robust in these rolling miles picturesquely framed by the Bald and Bays Mountains. David Crockett was born here, and Andrew Johnson was a Greenville tailor who ultimately became President of the United States after Lincoln’s assassination from 1785-1787. Greenville was the last capital of the “Lost State of Franklin.”
