1. Sullivan County Marker
Inscription. Sullivan County is named for Revolutionary Major General John Sullivan. Settled in 1785 by the first white pioneers from North Carolina, occupation of this Cherokee land provoked desperate fighting. Warrior’s Path State Park commemorates the trails of Native American inhabitants. The voyage of settlers with John Donelson to Nashborough began at Fort Patrick Henry on the Holston River. Kingsport, now known for its industry, was an important shipping center. Country Music Hall of Fame member Tennessee Ernie Ford was born here.
