1. History of Meek School Marker
Inscription.
Meek School was erected on ten acres of land given by Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wadsworth. Chiefly through the efforts of Warren Hamner and Claude Miller, Meek School become the first consolidated school in Winston County. In the Spring of 1923, Nathan Valley Springs, Old Arley, Smith School House, Cool Springs, Hiller (also known as New Hope and Gibson), Piney Ridge, Old Melville, Possum Trot, Old Bethel, Old McClellan Chapel, Flat Rock, Ardell, Helicon and Crane Hill Schools were combined to form Meek School. Until then students could not finish high school in Eastern Winston County. The original wooden building was approximately one hundred yards north of this location. A second rock building was later built and too was replaced by the current facility. Still Meek School marches on, doing herself proud. Built up from many schools. Meek School now stands strong in our Community. Certainly she has proven true the dreams and hopes of her founders.
On Old Winston's Eastern border,
Reared against the sky,
Proudly stands our Alma Mater
As the years go by.
