1. Hawkwood Mansion Marker
Inscription.
In this area were located many outbuildings, barns, the servants' house, and an outhouse. Nothing remains of most of these except some foundations but they attest to a thriving farm over the years. Many of the surrounding fields were used for farming, and as you walk along the paths, note the areas where the trees are smaller in width and height over large stretches of land. These were most likely fields up until well into the 20th century.

No pictures remain of the 3 hole outhouse that once existed on this property but the outhouse was probably similar to this one from the Buell Mansion on Midline Road in Ballston. There probably was more than one outhouse at times, one in this area and one nearer to the mansion itself. These were more than "ordinary” privies as the walls were plastered at some point. That certainly attests to the wealth of some of the residents on the property.
