1. (The Laguna Greeter) Marker
Inscription.
Eiler Larsen made this artist colony his "Greeting Corner" of the world. Giving all a friendly wave and warm smile he became known as Laguna's official greeter. Thanks to the sculptor for transforming this 800 year old Mendocino redwood tree into the likeness of Laguna's remarkable greeter.

1. Eiler Larsen -- Appalachian Trail Histories. Eiler U. Larsen (1890-1975) was the first person known to have attempted a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail (1931). At the time of his hike the Trail was not yet a continuously blazed path from Maine to Georgia, so it is no surprise that he was unable to complete his hike.
