Johan Meewis

Johan Meewis was als lid van de verzets- organisatie Knokploeg Amsterdam betrokken bij de voorbereiding van de overval op het Huis van Bewaring aan de Weteringschans. Deze overval, onder leiding van Johannes Post, vond plaats in de nacht van 14 op 15 juli 1944. Het had tot doel de vele gevangengenomen verzetsstrijders te bevrijden, maar mislukte.
Meewis is een van de weinige betrokkenen die de oorlog heeft overleefd. Hij stierf in 1948 op 42-jarige leeftijd in Zwitserland.
Johan Meewis was a member of the resistance organization 'Knokploeg Amsterdam', which was involved in the preparation of the raid on the jail on the Weteringschans. This raid, led by Johannes Post, took place on the night of 14 to 15 July 1944. Its purpose was to liberate the many imprisoned resistance fighters, but it failed.
Meewis was one of the few involved who survived the war. He died in 1948 at the age of 42 in Switzerland.
