Inscription.
Bob Love overcame a debilitating speech impediment to become a pioneer for future Southern University basketball players to reach the NBA. As a two-time All-American and a three-time All SWAC Love finished his career as Southern's all-time leading scorer and rebounder with 2,458 points and 1,166 rebounds. The Cincinnati Royals picked Love in the fourth round of the 1965 NBA draft. By his third season, the Bastrop native was traded to the Chicago Bulls. Love led the Bulls in scoring seven years in a row, averaging more than 23 points per game, setting club records that stood until Michael Jordan broke them. Love played in three All-Star games. After his proball career ended, Love attacked the stuttering that had plagued him throughout his life with the same ferocity that helped him reach. the NBA. His tireless efforts helped him overcome his stuttering and he was hired by the Bulls as the organization's director of community affairs and Bulls Goodwill Ambassador. On Jan. 14, 1994, Bob Love became the second Bulls player in history to have his jersey No. 10- retired by the team.
