1. War Mules Marker
This bronze statue is of a combat soldier on the Burma Trail, an almost forgotten part of WW II. It is to honor all Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, and Sailors. We thank them for their service and the contributions they and their families made to keep our great nation free.

Location. 48° 18.719′ N, 102° 22.559′ W. Marker is in Stanley, North Dakota, in Mountrail County. Memorial is on State Highway 8, 0.3 miles north of U.S. 2, on the right when traveling north. 1. Burma Road.
The road is 717 miles long and runs through rough mountain country. The sections from Kunming to the Burmese border were built by 200,000 Burmese and Chinese laborers during the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937 and completed by 1938 in order to circumvent the Japanese blockade of(Submitted on July 29, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)China. 2. Burma, 1942.
By late 1941 the United States was shipping lend-lease materiel by sea to the Burmese port of Rangoon, where it was transferred to railroad cars for the trip to Lashio in northern Burma and finally carried by truck over the 712-mile-long Burma Road to Kunming. Over this narrow highway, trucks carried munitions and materiel to supply the Chinese Army, whose continuing strength in turn forced the Japanese to keep considerable numbers of ground forces stationed in China.(Submitted on July 29, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
