Inscription. Eglise catholique St-Jean-Baptiste St-Jean-Baptiste Catholic Church La première église catholique en pierre remonte à 1829; elle est démolie quelques années plus tard, après avoir été jugée instable. En 1851, le curé Bourassa, dresse un nouveau plan d'église et travaille à sa construction. Son successeur, Abbot Bouvier, s'occupe de l'achèvement de l'intérieur. L'église a été décorée en 1929 par T. X. Renaud, un peintre d'église bien connu au Québec, en Ontario et aux États-Unis. L'église de L'Orignal était reconnue comme l'une des plus belles églises du diocèse de l'époque. Quatre prêtres sont enterrés dans la crypte. Cette paroisse, la troisième établie en Ontario fut érigée canoniquement en 1901. Elle a relevé successivement des diocèses de Québec, Kingston et Ottawa et maintenant de l'archidiocèse d'Ottawa-Cornwall.

The first Catholic church was built in stone in 1829 but was demolished some years later, having been deemed unstable. In 1851, Father Bourassa, drew a plan for a new church building and physically worked on its construction. His successor, Abbot Bou- vier, arranged for the completion of the interior. The church was decorated in 1929 by T. X. Renaud, a church painter well-known in Quebec, Ontario and the United States. The church in L'Orignal was recognized as one of the most beautiful in the

di- ocese at the time. Four priests are buried in the crypt. This parish was the third to be created in Ontario and was canonically established in 1901. It was successively part of the dioceses of Quebec, Kingston and Ottawa. It's now part of the archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall.
