1. Het Arsenaal / The Arsenal Marker
Tussen 1673 en 1685 werden de Naardense vestingwerken verbeterd, gebaseerd op het Nieuw-Nederlandse vesting- stelsel. Na voltooiing hiervan ontbrak het de stad aan een voorraadruimte voor wapens. Daartoe werd in 1688 het tuighuis het Groot Arsenaal gebouwd. In 1728 is het ver- groot met een extra verdieping en een nieuwe vleugel, het klein Arsenaal. Na een brand in 1954 werd het ge- restaureerd en bleef tot 1987 in militair gebruik. Zes jaar later werd het totale complex ingericht tot Design Centre.
The Naarden fortifications were built between 1673 and 1685 and improved, based on the New Netherlands fortress system. After their completion, the city lacked a stock room for weapons. To this end, in 1688 the 'Great Arsenal' was built. In 1728 it was expanded with an extra floor and a new wing, the 'Small Arsenal'. After a fire in 1954 it was restored and remained in military use until 1987. Six years later, the entire complex was converted into a Design Centre.
