1. Broken Buttresses! Marker

Inscription. The August 23, 2011, magnitude 5.8 earthquake left the flying buttresses in bad shape. The shaking cracked buttress flyers, twisted buttresses pinnacles and shook stones apart. To stabilize the stones and prevent major damage in the case of a future earthquake, the buttresses were drilled and "pinned" in place with long steel rods.

Erected by Washington National Cathedral.
