Bertrand & Fils Ltée, located at the corner of Longueuil and John streets, was a general store in the finest tradition.

Louis Bertrand founded the Bertrand & Séguin store with his nephew Hector Séguin in 1906. In 1913 two of Louis Bertrand's sons, Élie Oscar and Joseph, aged 19 and 16, bought the business that would become known as Louis Bertrand et Fils.

. In 1938, when the two brothers withdrew from the trade, their brother John became the sole owner. Soon, major renovations doubled the size of the corner store. Jean Bertrand dedicated his life to the store and served the community to the best of his ability. We like to remember that Mr. Jean opened his store after Sunday mass so that people in the rural areas could get supplies before going home.

In 1965, Jean left the business to his two older sons, Louis and Pierre.

In September 1973, after 67 years of existence, the L. Bertrand & Fils Ltée store permanently closed. Several businesses have replaced the general store from yesterday to today. Today, it is home to Huneault Portes de Garage Doors Inc and Marc Wolfe Construction.
