The Habitat Gardens at Birdcraft
The habitat gardens at the Connecticut Audubon Society's Birdcraft Sanctuary show visitors how to create pleasurable, bird-supportive and ecologically regenerative habitats around their homes. The five gardens feature native plants that thrive in seaside, meadow, wetland, woodland edge and urban terrace conditions.
Sasqua Garden Club installed the habitat gardens in 2015. The Club's mission is to improve and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement, and in keeping with this goal, the Club provided funding, horticultural expertise and countless hours of labor to create Birdcraft's habitar gardens. Signs were provided through the 2015 Founders Fund award from the Garden Club of America of which Sasqua Garden Club is a member. Committed to the project and community, the Fairfield Garden Club seconded Sasqua Garden Club's nomination for this award.
