Born in Orléans on January 7, 1873, Charles Péguy, after passing through the Ecole Normale Supérieure on rue d'Ulm and following Bergson's lessons, was a militant Dreyfusard when he created here, on January 5, 1900, his Cahiers de la Quinzaine ("Notebooks of the Fortnight"). Surrounded by collaborators such as Romain Rolland, Julien Benda or Georges Sorel, he published 229 issues until July 1914, when he published most of his prose works, including "Notre jeunesse" ("Our Youth") in 1910.
"Heavy, repetitive, obstinate thought is formed at the same time as it is made"... After rediscovering the Catholic faith and having made several pilgrimages to Chartres, Péguy died at the front in 1914.
Erected 1997 by Ville de Paris.

Excerpt: "Charles Pierre Péguy (7 January 1873 – 5 September 1914) was a French poet, essayist, and editor. His two main philosophies were socialism and nationalism. By 1908 at the latest, after years of uneasy agnosticism, he had become a believing but non-practicing Roman Catholic. From that time, Catholicism strongly influenced his works."(Submitted on August 16, 2022.)
