De Joodse Joseph Eijl was magazijnmeester van beroep en was aangesloten bij de Com- munistische Partij van Nederland (CPN). Tijdens de Februaristaking in 1941 deelde hij pamfletten uit in de Van Woustraat. Eijl werd door een NSB'er verraden, gearresteerd en overgedragen aan de Sicherheitspolizei. Tot aan zijn dood zat hij gevangen in het Huis van Bewaring in Scheveningen, beter bekend als het Oranjehotel. Eijl werd op 13 maart 1941 op de Waalsdorpervlakte gefusilleerd, samen met twee andere stakers en vijftien leden van De Geuzen, een van de eerste verzetsgroepen van Nederland. In 1982 is zijn stoffelijk overschot overgebracht naar het Ereveld in Loenen.
Joseph Eijl was a warehouse manager by profession, a Jew by faith, and was affiliated with the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN). During the February strike in 1941 he handed out pamphlets in the Van Woustraat. Eijl was betrayed by an NSB member, arrested and handed over to the Sicherheitspolizei. Until his death, he was imprisoned in the House of Detention in Scheveningen, better known as the Oranjehotel. Eijl was executed on March 13, 1941 on the Waalsdorpervlakte, along with two other strikers and fifteen members of De Geuzen, one of the first resistance groups in the Netherlands. In 1982 his remains were transferred to the Field of Honor in Loenen.
