Willem Herbertus Jiskoot
Amsterdam, 29 december 1924 - Overveen, 7 maart 1945

(English transaction:)

Student Willem Herbertus (Wilco) Jiskoot was only 19 years old when he became involved with the resistance newspaper Het Parool in 1944. He maintained contact with the Parool core in Groningen, which supplied the three northern provinces with newspapers. On his initiative, the illegal Chronicle of the Week was published in Baarn, where his mother lived, and a Parool bulletin was published in Bilthoven. During the Hunger Winter (the period in 1944-45 when parts of the Netherlands faced famine), Jiskoot was in charge of the service that provided Parool employees with food. At the beginning of 1945 he was arrested in his room on the Prinsengracht. As a Todeskandidat (captives the Nazis had pre-selected for execution) he was executed with fourteen others in reprisal for the shooting of the NSB member Zirkzee by resistance women Hannie Schaft and Truus Oversteegen. Jiskoot was reburied at the Memorial Cemetery in Bloemendaal. He was posthumously awarded the Resistance Cross and gave his name to the scouting group where he had been a patrol leader in his youth.
