1. A History of Glass Marker
Inscription. Bryce Brothers Glass Company
Employment was always available in the glass plants. The Bryce Brothers Glass Company manufactured fine crystals and glass products in Mt. Pleasant from 1896 to 1965. The art of making hand blown glass was a process, which included making a batch of molten glass and etching designs into specific patterns, brilliance, color, and beauty for a finished product. Bryce Glass was used by several U.S. Presidents and could be found in U.S. embassies around the world. In 1965, Bryce Glass was acquired by Lenox Inc., ending 115 years of glass making under the Bryce name.

L.E. Smith Glass Company
Founded in 1907, the L.E. Smith Glass Company manufactured a variety of products ranging from decorative glass pieces to headlight lenses for the Ford Motor Company. It was one of the last hand-molded glass producers in the United States when the factory closed in 2004.

The glass companies also attracted a variety of ethnic groups to live and work in Mt. Pleasant, adding to its already rich heritage Photos courtesy of the Mt. Pleasant Historical Society archives
