To the south-west, at approximately two kilometers, lies Dickinson's Landing, a stagecoach stop on the mail line between Montreal and Kingston, operated by Barnabus Dickinson, the village's founder. The construction of the Cornwall Canal and the building of the Grand Trunk Railway Line at Dickinson's Landing Station (Wales), by the mid-1800's, contributed to the village's population decline from 1000 to 200 residents, a century later. ,
