Formed from Sempronius in 1833. Village of Moravia incorporated in 1837. Reincorporated in 1859.

portions of the Central NY Military Tract, the expanse of lands made available to soldiers who had served in the Revolutionary War. In the process of land settlement the Military Tract Township of Sempronius was split into the smaller Towns we are more familiar with today. (The Town of Sempronius was named after the ancient Roman politician known for agricultural reform, dividing land from the state and giving it to landowners and poorer citizens.)
