1. Louis Sullivan Building Marker
Inscription. One North Third Street was designed by famous Chicago architect Louis Sullivan and built in 1914. The beautiful structure includes elaborate gray-green terra cotta, colorful mosaics, opalescent glass panels, and a palatial interior banking hall with geometric murals. It is one of eight jewel box banks built by Sullivan, but unique as it is the only one constructed totally of terra cotta. The building has been home to a bank, a butcher shop, a jewelry store, and eventually an ice cream parlor.
